“Stop calling me Nips!” you can hear her say on the phone with her pretty, albeit fuckboy, boyfriend Tony. Michelle got a bad rap for being the physically gifted, all consumed girlfriend of manipulative Tony Stonem, whom penned the name “Nips” for her alleged uneven boobs. Seriously, drop it like a hot plate and move along. Though despite her on and off relationship, Michelle is always going to be your ride or die friend with all the outfit advice. On the Skins 10th Anniversary, Buzzfeed came out with all the Y2K style highlights of BFF duo Jal and Michelle, praising them for cheap chic accessories (think Claire’s, Topshop, or Icing) double headbands, scrunchies and even for “making braces a thing.”
Skins Season 1: In Jal’s episode, Michelle takes her on a shopping spree to find an evening dress for her clarinet recital – I thought this shopping bag was from Biba at first glance, but the iconic boutique closed in 1975, so obviously RIP…
“You play clarinet and I look shaggable.” – Michelle giving personal societal norm advice to Jal…
Throughout season 1 of Skins, Michelle keeps her dress code to simple early 2000s girl next door “girlfriend Michelle” wearing plenty of skinny jeans with buttoned up cardigans, jersey dresses, flirty skater skirts and heels. When the next season ushered in Tony’s amnesia to everything in his past, it leaves Michelle in heartache and on the rebound.
As she coaxes Tony to remember their relationship, she also takes Sid up on his undying love for her while Cassie is away in Scotland. Throughout the remainder of the season, Michelle looks like she never missed a sale at Wet Seal: accessories, bold jewelry, and bright colors.
Skins Season 1: The Love Triangle: Tony and Michelle tightly wound, with lovesick Sid. Who remembers those bright nylon belts from the early 2000s?
Skins Season 1: Michelle kept it simple and fitted with cardigans. Oh, and her hair was always voluminous
Skins Season 2: Then she went short for the next season and introduced this bow icon necklace (probably from H&M or Topshop) which she wore in many episodes.
Skins Season 2: One of best episodes is when the gang all goes camping on the coast for Michelle’s birthday. She wears some cute denim overalls halfway on with a bright tank top, and statement jewelry, of course. The wing earrings are my favorite.
Skins Season 2: Thanks to Buzzfeed for highlighting how Jal and Michelle were champions of early 2000s fashion and that 2 for 1 accessory sale. Michelle is all about trendy pieces and Jal was the queen of layering blouses with pinafore dresses. And the barrettes!
Skins Season 2 Finale: Michelle pulls from a mixture of decades: definitely early 2000s and in the finale, she is wearing some bold patterns and metallic earrings reminiscent of the 80s.

When I think back to how I dressed in the 2000s, I’m like whoa… there was way too much accessorizing and makeup at times. It really worked on Michelle. She makes it fun and embraces “cheap chic” in her personality as she discovers herself in the latter half of the series.
